Literature Text

I didn't always used to be this way
Dodging traffic, muttering insanities
Copper coils in corporate corners
I used to dream and be free

Once upon a time I was me
I ran through the throngs of people
Invisible and untouchable, I was
A child of a higher calling, a deity

But growing up scars the flesh and
Mars the bone: I withered in the sight of others
Helping hands, loving community
Ground me into dust and blew me into the wind

So I built a castle of sand and pebbles
High upon a sunny hill, but the searing heat
Turned my sand into glass… what a pity
Such futile attempts to stay safe.

Nobody saw me now, as I waited inside
Enraged, I cried out in anger, in rejection, and fury at such injustice…
And so I began to throw stones.
Short and bittersweet
